About the event

In the context of the European Disability and Development Week, this panel will shade the light on the crucial role that cities play in “leaving no one behind”, with a specific focus on persons with disabilities in developing countries.

Following-up on the global review of Sustainable Development Goal #11, this event will offer the opportunity to discuss the challenges and the potentials of addressing the needs of persons with disabilities to enjoy their right to the city and fully access its services.

Via inclusive urban planning and policies, cities can improve safety and accessibility, thus ensuring that persons with disabilities participate in society on an equal basis with others, encompassing all areas like education, employment, cultural, social and political life.

The event will bring together representatives from cities and cities’ networks, NGOs, and institutional development actors to reinforce dialogue and synergies between them and their multi-level actions. Drawing on evidence and experiences, panelists and participants will discuss measures and recommendations to make the commitment “leave none behind” a reality in urban development.
