About the event

Half of all persons with disabilities and older persons around the world now live in towns and cities. These groups are estimated to represent over 2 billion persons in cities worldwide by 2050. Merging the commitments to Accessibility and Universal Design enshrined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, the Global Compact on Inclusive and Accessible Cities aims at ensuring that these communities are able to actively participate and effectively contribute to the city.

This launch event is organized by World Enabled and with strategic support of German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), as well as the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), UN Habitat, and the Global Network on Disability Inclusive and Accessible Urban Development (DIAUD). The ceremony will include the participation of High-Level Authorities and Representatives from Local and National Governments, Industry, Civil Society Organizations ,and International Agencies representing diverse regions and stakeholders around the world working to Leave No One Behind.
